Training
We have been training with the paying public since 1980. At Trifecta we emphasize the importance of teach, before we correct. We use a lot of motivational stuff in our programs, and believe that dog attitude is as important as dog ability. Many of our philosophies are based on the work of Ian Dunbar, the noted veterinarian and behaviorist.
Our puppy programs are the best you will find anywhere. While we are skilled obedience trainers for all breeds, and all levels, we are really young dog specialists. We believe that the key to all future man/dog interaction is developed during the puppy process. Roles, pack position, trained responses, and problem avoidance begin during this once in a lifetime period. The future of the adult dog is only as good as the foundation work that we humans can provide now.
Our Canine Good Citizen Programs - are the next step in out training programs. The title CGC should say it all. If we have done our job as puppy trainers then they (puppies) should pass this test with flying colors. We offer the CGC training as a regular, vital part of our program.
Students can then train for their Therapy Dog titles. The extra work produces a well-rounded, reliable companion, and one that can fit into almost any household situation imaginable.
A word to the wise…Train early, 7 weeks is perfect age…..Train often…brief interval/focus sessions- 2 or 3 minutes per session. Aim for 5 sessions daily.
Another obedience tip- Puppy Training should be about managing resources. For example, when you want to give the youngster a treat, ask for a sit first. If necessary, use the treat as a lure, and once pup sits, feed promptly. Resource management is the biggest unused training method we see in the everyday, average pet household.
Advanced Agility - Meets Saturdays11:00am. Programs run from Spring and into late fall.
Aggression - We are capable behaviorists, as well, as trainers, and there is a difference. Most, if not all of the veterinarians in our area refer behavioral issues to us. We’ve had much success with problematic dogs, and enjoy seeing those successes. However, this kind of work demands a committed, consistent and cooperative owner. Fees:aggressive/dominance-initial session-$75.00 When invited to class, the normal class fee will apply.
CD, and CDX - Many of our students pursue these titles while training with us. This is an out growth of our earlier CGC and Therapy dog training
Fees - All training here will begin with a private evaluation. This is a working session that includes a complete history taking and review of dog’s health records, worming schedules, and discussion of goals. Trainer skill level is determined, as well as skill level of pup. Fundamental skills are begun during these session, things like sit, down, attention are explained and demonstrated. Fee-$40.
